Health hacks that will save you money during the recession

As always, I am being my positive self and looking at things from a different angle.

Coming from the Balkans I have experienced some difficult periods in my life. Our parents had to worry daily about the safety of the family and if there was going to be food on the table tomorrow.

There were many days when we had to go without electricity or water due to the country’s saving measures, so we learned to save money early and how to figure our life around it.

These hacks have been a part of my life for so long now, which had a lot of influence on my health as well.

Now that I am an adult I realize it’s much more to it and how these health hacks can actually help anyone save money during a recession.

diy candles

TO SAVE ELECTRICITY -switch to candles

Let’s start with the most expensive thing!

I don’t know where you are from, but in Belgium, we got one of the highest electricity price increases in the EU, even up to 85%!

How to battle that? Well, it seems like most of the people decided to get ready in dark.

Just kidding! Jokes aside, candles on.

How is that a health hack? Switching to candlelight after the sun goes down, helps your body to prepare itself for a good night’s sleep. Blue light blocks melatonin production and keeps you awake, so a pair of good blue light blockers and some toxin-free candles will provide you with long-term effects on your health. And save you some money during this crisis.

To save water – take a cold shower

Another health hack I love is my cold showers. The list of benefits of what a cold shower does for our health is long, but here are some of them.

It strengthens your immune system, stimulates weight loss, improves circulation and gives the endorphins a good boost. Basically makes you fit, strong and happy! 😀 Which then will automatically reduce the stress that’s creeping up on us from every corner.

walking more to save money during recession

To save gas – walk or ride a bicycle

I’m not the best advocate for all the sustainability propaganda, but this is just the most logical solution.

We all got a little bit spoiled with the comfort of the cars, aren’t we? Yes sure it’s a necessity, and I am all for it, but there are times when we can better choose to walk.

Hop on a bike for the next grocery shopping or a coffee met up with a friend, and you’ll build some muscles while saving money as well! Walking is another great health hack that brings us to the next food-related subject – after meal stroll.

To save money – intermittent fasting and keto

Keto is something we all have different opinions on. A healthy diet means different things to different people, but I think most of us agree on the fact that – bad carbs are…bad. 🤷

I first tried keto during the pandemic (talking about saving money 🙄) and I loved it! So much so that I kept doing it on and off, seeing more and more results every time.

Firstly, it helps my bloating caused by my obsession with croissants and chocolate, which naturally store extra fluids in my body. Keto, even if not done 100% correctly, cuz I’m just not THAT dedicated, gives me so much energy.

If you wanna step it up a bit, try keto in combination with fasting!

This is my absolute #1 health hack! Not only for saving money during the recession but for general health,

All the focus, creativity and extra energy that my body gets from intermittent fasting and keto, are priceless to me.

To make it easier, Instead of Sunday’s brunch, discover some easy keto recipes with your friends and make a group fasting schedule. My favorite keto bread recipe, I know you will love it!

My friend and I motivated each other a lot through those difficult last hours of a fast when another coffee just doesn’t cut it anymore.
